The future of electric cars in China

The future of electric cars in China

If around 1.6 million electric cars are sold in China this year, it is predicted that in 20 years around 16 million electric cars will be sold in China every year. The quota will therefore increase tenfold and thus take up a significant share of the annually sold cars in China. If all this happens, China will become a huge market for the sale of electric cars. The question is, who will benefit from this growth? Can German premium brands continue to be successful in China? And can the large number of Chinese electric car start-up companies currently on the market survive at all?
At the moment we see a sales slump in China, which does not miss the segment of electric cars. In particular, the Chinese start-ups are naturally more vulnerable in such situations than an established automaker.

The start-up relies on growth in electric car sales in China, and if it does not come to the hoped-for level, it could become critical. In addition, with the autonomous driving functions and completely autonomous driving is yet another big milestone in the room. Here is the open source platform Apollo from the Chinese search engine Baidu a project at the start, that is already active with more than 100 partners in China. Among others BAIC, Geely and Dongfeng - but also Daimler, Ford and Hyundai are there. The competition will be driven by the Chinese Tech Giant Tencent and will be used in the future, among others, at Tesla in China. Tencent has been a significant shareholder in Tesla since 2017.

It remains extremely exciting and electric cars in China will probably continue to determine the measure of things. If you want to successfully sell electric cars in China or anywhere in the world today and in the future, you will have to prove that you can succeed in the Chinese market. It will therefore probably come as China's leaders have imagined - anyone who says electric cars will not be able to get past China in the future.
